THE LEAD
The Stetson University Women's Soccer team will take the pitch for the third time this regular season as they play against the Charleston Southern at 5:00 PM on Thursday at the ATC. The game will be the first of a double header with the men's team, who will be hosting College of Charleston at 7:30 PM.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The two programs have faced off four times prior to this season's matchup but it has been dead even as the series stands at 1-1-2. Last time they met, the game went through two overtimes without either team being able to break the tie as it ended in a 0-0 draw. The first matchup between these two teams took place in 2014 where the Hatters earned a 1-0 win.
SCOUTING THE HATTERS (0-2-0, 0-0 ASUN)
The Hatters may have dropped their first two matches against Miami and Air Force, but the momentum they have generated in each game provide for some excitement. Against Miami, Stetson controlled the majority of the first half generating chances and stopping many of Miami's opportunities. When facing Air Force, Stetson was able to net its first two goals of the season both from midfielder Annika Seem who earned ASUN Player of the Week. One of Seem's goals game on a penalty kick which the Hatters had been 0-4 on since 2019. The Hatters will look to put two halves together on Thursday in an effort to earn their first win of the season. Mallory Osborn, a true freshman, has started both games this season recording 16 saves, including 11 in her last outting.
SCOUTING THE BUCS (1-1-0, 0-0 Big South)
The Bucs have started the season 1-1, dropping their first game to Navy, 2-1, before following that up with a victory over Delaware State by a score of 3-0. Four different Charleston Southern players have tallied a goal so far this season. Each of their goalies have made a start in the Charleston Southern's first two games of the season with Sara Curtis earning the shutout. The Bucs were voted fifth in the Big South heading into this season with forward Jenea Knight earning a spot on the Big South Preseason All-Conference team.
NEXT UP
The Hatters will hit the road for the first time during the 2023 regular season as they travel to Gainesville where they will take on the University of Florida. Kickoff is set to begin at 6pm on Aug 27 at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
