Hatters Look to Extend Hot Streak Against Kennesaw State and Queens

DeLand, Fla. – Stetson is on a three-game win streak that includes conference victories over North Florida and Jacksonville. The Hatters will visit Kennesaw State on Wednesday January 10 for a game at 7pm before facing off against Queens on Friday January 12 at 7pm.
 
History
The Hatters are 16-19 against the Owls. The teams last met on January 19, 2023, where the Hatters fell in overtime at home. They first faced off on January 21, 2006. Stetson and Queens have only played once with Queens joining the ASUN last year.  They played on January 28, 2023.
 
Scouting the Hatters (8-6, ASUN 0-0)
Stetson continued their winning ways in the state of Florida going 10-0. Their first road trip for conference play will provide a tough challenge. Alec Oglesby and Stephan Swenson lit up the stat sheets the past two games. Swenson put up a total of 38 points, going 12-27 from the field, 6-8 from beyond the arc and 8-8 from the line. Oglesby put up 34 points, going 12-24 from the field, 8-13 from three and 2-2 from the line. Aubin Gateretse was all over the boards, recording 20 over the two games. He also picked up 25 points. Against North Florida, Gateretse recorded his fifth double-double of the season. Blackmon has been in a bit of shooting slump the last two games but continues to lead the Hatters in scoring, averaging 22.1 points. Josh Smith made his first appearance this season, returning after seven months due to an injury from last season's CBI game. He logged 28 minutes between the two games while tallying 11 points and 7 rebounds. 
 
Stetson ranks first overall in free throw percentage in the NCAA hitting at an 84% clip as they average just over 12 per game. The team is shooting 46.5% from the field and 37.6& from three. The team is averaging 10 three points made per game which reflects in their average points per game of 78. The team will look to continue their excellent three-point shooting and when the shots aren't falling, they'll look to work the ball inside and draw fouls.  


Scouting the Opponents
 
Scouting the Owls (10-5, ASUN 1-0)
Kennesaw State is coming off a conference victory over Queens, winning 80-77. They were able to stop Queens on their final possession after committing a costly turnover. The Owls are led by Simeon Cottle who is averaging 16.9 points per game. He is followed closely by Terrell Burden who is averaging 14.9 and also leads the team with 95 assists. Desmond Robinson is the team leader in rebounds with 7.7 per game and blocks with 19 total. As a team Kennesaw State is averaging 85 points per game while shooting 44% from the field and 32% from three. They average 10 threes per game while also getting to the line 15 times a game where they shoot 67%.
 
Scouting the Royals (6-10, ASUN 0-1)
The Royals fell to the Owls this past weekend 77-80. That was their fifth loss in a row including losses to ranked ACC teams Duke and Clemson. Queens is led by AJ McKee who is averaging 16.1 points per game and totaling 27 steals. He is shooting 39.5% from the field and 27% from three. Deyton Albury isn't far behind him averaging 15.9 points per game and leading the team with 64 assists. BJ McLaurin cleans up the glass for the Royals averaging 6 per game while Malcolm Wilson protects the rim with 19 blocks.  As a team Queens scores 79.8 points per game while shooting 43% from the field, and 33.8% from beyond the arc. They average 9.8 threes a game and go to the line almost 14 times where they shoot 70.5%. 
 
Up Next
The Hatters will return home on Monday January 15 to host Chicago State. These two met on December 3 with Chicago State winning 54-77. Stetson will look to even the season series and get their tenth nonconference win of the season.
