Women's Rowing Battles UConn Huskies in Challenging Conditions

DeLAND, FL - On Saturday, March 22, the Stetson Hatters women's rowing team hosted the UConn Huskies for an exciting race on the waters of Lake Beresford in DeLand. The race, held in chilly conditions with a cross-headwind of 6-7mph, provided both teams with a challenging test. With the temperature hovering around 57 degrees, the teams lined up to race a 2,000-meter course in three events: the Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, and Varsity Four.

In the Varsity 8 event, UConn took the lead and maintained a solid pace throughout the race. Despite a strong effort from Stetson, UConn finished first with a time of 7:02.6, while the Hatters crossed the line in 7:21.21.

Next up was the 2nd Varsity 8 event, which saw UConn's top crew hold on for another victory with a time of 7:27.7, followed closely by their 3rd Varsity boat (7:40.8). Stetson fought hard but ultimately finished in 7:47.7.

In the final race of the day, the Varsity Four, UConn claimed the victory once again, posting a time of 8:18.6. The Huskies' second Varsity Four crew finished just behind with an 8:23.2 time, while Stetson faced a challenge in this race, finishing with a time of 14:45.7.

While the results favored UConn, the Stetson Hatters showed great resilience, particularly under the tough conditions.

Looking ahead, the Hatters are set to compete in the Sunshine State Invitational at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, FL, on March 28 and 29 with racing set to begin at 7:00 AM.
