SHELTON, Conn. — The Stetson Hatters women's rowing team wrapped up its regular season Saturday, competing in the Sacred Heart Invitational against conference foes Sacred Heart, Fairfield and Monmouth on the Lower Housatonic River.
Facing a strong MAAC field in a key championship tune-up, the Hatters competed across five races on the 2,000-meter course in challenging conditions that featured a moderate headwind with gusts up to 15 mph and a tail current. Variable gusts and boat wakes added another layer of difficulty throughout the morning.
Stetson's top finish of the day came in the Varsity Four, where the Hatters placed third with a time of 7:38.2, finishing just behind Sacred Heart (7:31.5) and Monmouth (7:35.3), while crossing ahead of Fairfield (7:59.9).
"The varsity four put together a highly competitive race and delivered their best performance of the season, finishing right alongside Sacred Heart and Monmouth, and ahead of Fairfield," assistant coach Andrew Rouse said. "They will look to build on that momentum as the team heads into the conference championship."
The Hatters' Varsity 8 posted a time of 6:55.3 against a competitive field led by Sacred Heart (6:39.5), Monmouth (6:43.4) and Fairfield (6:48.4). In the 2nd Varsity 8, Stetson recorded a 7:13.0 finish in a race won by Sacred Heart in 6:48.0.
The regatta opened with the 2V4 and concluded with the 3V8, giving the Hatters one final opportunity to sharpen race execution ahead of postseason competition.
