Hatters Finish Third at Edisto Island Invitational Behind Sakashita, Butler

EDISTO ISLAND, S.C. — Stetson women's golf closed out the Edisto Island Invitational with another solid round Tuesday, firing a 6-over 290 to climb one spot and finish third overall at The Plantation Course at Edisto.

The Hatters posted rounds of 298, 290 and 290 to finish the 54-hole event at 26-over 878. Stetson entered Tuesday in fourth place before moving past Charleston Southern in the final round, finishing seven strokes clear of the Buccaneers and 10 ahead of fifth-place Georgia State. High Point and host Charleston shared the team title at 3-over 855.

Isaki Sakashita continued her strong stretch of play to lead Stetson for the second consecutive tournament. After opening with a 1-over 72 Monday morning, Sakashita moved under par with a second-round 69 before closing with an even-par 71 on Tuesday. She finished tied for fourth at 1-under 212, recording two rounds of par or better and ending just three strokes behind runner-up Molly Hardwick of Charleston. High Point's Makayla Grubb captured the individual title at 8-under 205.

While Sakashita provided consistency at the top of the lineup, Bridget Butler delivered Stetson's round of the tournament on Tuesday. Butler bounced back from a second-round 79 by firing a 3-under 68, matching the lowest score by a Hatter over the three rounds. The final-round surge moved Butler 15 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 19th at 8-over 221.

Maya Burmann also turned in her best round of the tournament Tuesday, carding a 1-over 72 after rounds of 75 and 76 on Monday. She finished tied for 23rd at 10-over 223, giving Stetson three golfers inside the top 25.

Clara Willem finished tied for 31st at 15-over 228. Willem's tournament was highlighted by a strong response during Monday's second round, when she improved nine strokes from her opening 79 to shoot a 1-under 70. Maggie Potash rounded out the Hatter lineup in a tie for 37th at 18-over 231 following rounds of 77, 75 and 79.

Stetson's final-round 290 matched its second-round total as the team's best score of the tournament. The Hatters counted a 68 from Butler, 71 from Sakashita, 72 from Burmann and 79 from Willem toward Tuesday's team score, allowing Stetson to make the move into third place.

The third-place showing gives the Hatters another top finish following their championship at the Navy Fall Invite, where Stetson erased a 13-shot deficit and defeated host Navy in a playoff. Sakashita has now led the lineup in back-to-back events, following her tied-for-third finish in Annapolis with another top-five performance at Edisto Island.

Stetson concludes the Edisto Island Invitational with a 26-over 878 on the par-71, 5,953-yard Plantation Course.
