JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Stetson University beach volleyball team split a pair of 3-2 duals in Jacksonville, opening the weekend with a win over Jacksonville University before falling in a tightly contested matchup to the University of North Florida.
Stetson began the day with a 3-2 victory over Jacksonville. The Hatters secured points on Courts 2, 3 and 5 to clinch the season-opening win.
Maria Ozaeta and
Marta Carro set the tone at No. 2 with a commanding 21-14, 21-15 victory over Jamie Seward and Hayden Garnett.
Madeline Camp and
Cayla Sutton followed with a 21-16, 21-14 win at No. 5 against Kye Swink and Maddie Fielder.
After Jacksonville evened the dual with wins at No. 1 and No. 4, the match came down to Court 3.
Zoe Flueckiger and Lucie
Nosálková rallied from a first-set loss to defeat Avery Kleithermes and Morgan Perry, 18-21, 21-10, 15-11, sealing the 3-2 victory for the Hatters.
Later, Stetson dropped a narrow 3-2 decision to North Florida despite earning wins on Courts 1 and 5.
EJ Cudmore and
Julia Radelczuk put the Hatters on the board at the top spot with a 21-17, 21-17 straight-sets win over Presley Murray and Mackenzie Murphy. Camp and Sutton added another point at No. 5, defeating Natalie Villalon and Ally Bunch, 21-16, 21-19.

The Hatters will take on FGCU and South Carolina on Saturday, Feb. 21, starting at 8 a.m. at the Payne Sand Volleyball Courts at Dolphin Beach in Jacksonville, Florida.
