DORADO, Puerto Rico — Stetson men's golf delivered a statement win Tuesday, claiming both the team championship and individual medalist honors at the Dorado Beach Collegiate at TPC Dorado Beach.
The Hatters fired an 8-under-par final round to pull away for a six-shot victory over Southern Miss, securing their first team title of the spring and second of the season. Host UNC Greensboro finished third at 4-under.
Stetson's Matthis Lefèvre led the way, earning medalist honors at 6-under (72-68-70) for the tournament. He edged teammate Gaspar Glaudas (72-72-68) by one stroke and finished two shots clear of Elon's Dylan Lewis and Southern Miss' Benjamin Fernandez, who tied for third.
Glaudas matched the low round of the day with a 4-under performance, sharing that honor with three other golfers.
Jackson Hicks (75-70-71) and Simon Engman (73-70-73) each finished tied for 13th at even par, while Rasmus Ronnberg (73-76-71) closed with a 1-under round — his best of the tournament — to finish tied for 31st at 4-over. Competing as an individual, Gabriel Lindahl (75-74-72) finished one stroke back at 5-over, tying for 34th in the 93-player field.
The battle for medalist honors came down to the final stretch between the program's two French golfers, Lefèvre and Glaudas. Lefèvre entered the day with a one-shot lead but slipped to 1-over through his first 10 holes. Glaudas surged ahead during that span, playing his first 10 holes at 4-under, including a birdie streak on Nos. 9-11.
Glaudas, last year's ASUN Conference individual champion, steadied with eight consecutive pars on the back nine, but Lefèvre caught fire late. He played his final six holes at 3-under, highlighted by a clutch birdie on the 212-yard, par-3 17th, to reclaim the lead and secure the title.
Stetson led the field in par 3 and par 5 scoring with averages of 3.07 and 4.62, respectively. The Hatters also played the most mistake-free golf of the tournament, scoring a tournament-low 38 total bogeys.
Stetson returns to action next week when it hosts the Sam Ryder Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday at the Hills Course at LPGA International in Daytona Beach.
