TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Stetson University junior Simon Engman carded a first round 66 to highlight the Hatter men's golf team as it sits in a tie for fourth place after impending weather shortened the first day of competition at the Seminole Intercollegiate at Seminole Legacy Golf Club.
Stetson finished today's first round with a 3-over par 291 to finish four strokes behind host Florida State. The 21-team, 112-golfer field began the tournament's second round in anticipation of impending inclement weather expected in the area over the next day or so.
Most golfers completed approximately 30 holes over the first two rounds. The teams return to Seminole Legacy to complete round two tomorrow at 4 p.m. The tournament concludes with a single round beginning at 8:30 a.m., on Tuesday
In today's first round, behind Engman, graduate transfer Matthis Lefèvre made a late run with three-straight birdies to finish with a 1-over par 73. Seniors
Jackson Hicks and
Gaspar Glaudas finished at 4-over par, while
Rasmus Ronnberg ended his round at 8-over par.
Engman, a native of Gothenburg, Sweden, posted six birdies, two bogeys and an impressivve eagle on the 600-yard par 5 sixth hole. He matched his previous low score of 66 in the final round at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate last season, where he shared runner-up honors.
Following the conclusion of the Seminole Intercollegiate, Stetson takes a week off before returning to competition at the Seahawk Intercollegiate in Wilmington, N.C. on March 30-31. The Hatters conclude their regular season at the Gile-Spratley Collegiate in Richmond, Va. on April 6-7.
