TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Nearly 28 hours after beginning the tournament's second round, golfers finally completed the opening 36 holes late Monday afternoon at the Seminole Intercollegiate at Seminole Legacy Golf Club.
The Stetson men's golf team battled inconsistent weather conditions through first two rounds to finish at 10-over par 586 and sits just two strokes behind runner-up Southern Mississippi. Tomorrow's final round is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. Host Florida State leads the 21-team field on its home course with a 4-under par 572.
Junior Simon Engman remains among the top 10 individuals despite a rough second round. The Gothenburg, Sweden native opened the tournament with a collegiate-best 66 but found the second round's conditions more difficult to manage and carded a 6-over par 78 to enter tomorrow's final round in a share of 10th place among the 112 golfers.
Graduate transfer Matthis Lefèvre is tied for 19th after rounds of 73-74 for a 3-over par 147. After returning to the course for today's action, the Hossegor, France native went 1-under over the final six holes.
Jackson Hicks is tied for 35th at 5-over with scores of 76-73, while Gaspar Glaudas shares 46th place at 7-over (76-75). Rasmus Ronnberg made significant improvement in the second round, moving up 31 places on the leaderboard to sit in a tie for 64th at 9-over par.
The field opened the tournament yesterday and was originally scheduled to play one round per day over three days. However, with inclement weather approaching the Florida Panhandle, tournament organizers elected to have players begin the second round immediately after completing the first.
Golfers were able to complete a little more than a dozen holes of the second round before darkness suspended play. The field returned to Seminole Legacy today at 4 p.m. to finish the second round.
The tournament will conclude with the final round beginning at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow. Cool temperatures, slight winds and mostly sunny conditions are in the forecast.
Following the conclusion of the Seminole Intercollegiate, Stetson takes a week off before returning to competition at the Seahawk Intercollegiate in Wilmington, N.C. on March 30-31. The Hatters conclude their regular season at the Gile-Spratley Collegiate in Richmond, Va. on April 6-7.
