Hicks Leads Stetson To First Round Lead in North Carolina

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Senior Jackson Hicks fired rounds of 67-71 to finish at 6-under and owns a one stroke advantage in the medalist race, while the Stetson men's golf team shares the team lead after the first day of competition at the Seahawk Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Landfall.

Stetson finished the first 36 holes at 7-under par and is tied with VCU and host UNC Wilmington at the top of the team leaderboard. Duke University is in fourth place at 5-under par, while Jacksonville is the only other team to turn in a score under par and is in fifth place at 2-under.

Hicks and teammate Gaspar Glaudas shared the individual lead following the morning's first round, each carding a 5-under par 67. Hicks turned-in a 1-under 71 in the afternoon and owns a one stroke lead on the field with VCU's Carson Looney and Duke's William Love sitting one stroke behind.

Glaudas shares eighth place at 3-under par with Oliver Mukherjee of Duke and Stetson teammate Thanattasorn Supinraj. A native of Udon Thani, Thailand, Supinraj shot 68-73 in his first two rounds. He is playing the tournament as an individual with scores not counting toward the team's total.

Matthis Lefèvre and Simon Engman share 18th place with seven other golfers at 1-over par. Lefèvre shot 74-71, while Engman went 71-74 in today's competition. Rasmus Ronnberg ended the day in a tie for 77th at 9-over.

Graduate transfer Lerèvre made a noteworthy late run to aid in the Hatters' team finish, registering eagles on two of his final three finishing holes – the 507-yard 17th hole and 537-yard first hole.

The 15-team field returns to the par 72, 7,030-yard Nicklaus Course (Ocean-Marsh) Tuesday with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start for the tournament's final round.

Following the Seahawk Intercollegiate, the Hatters conclude their regular season at the Gile-Spratley Collegiate in Richmond, Va. on April 6-7.
