Stetson Goes 2-0 on Final Day of Long Beach Invitational

Long Beach, Calif. — Stetson closed out play at the Long Beach Invitational with a pair of victories Saturday, edging CSU Bakersfield 3-2 before defeating Santa Clara 4-1.

The Hatters opened the day with a tightly contested 3-2 win over CSU Bakersfield.

Madeline Camp and Cayla Sutton put Stetson on the board early at No. 5, defeating Kylie Taylor and Katey Milne in straight sets, 21-17, 21-14. Maria Ozaeta and Marta Carro followed with a dominant performance at No. 2, cruising past Sophia Anderson and Olivia Ostler 21-8, 21-7 to give the Hatters a 2-0 lead.

CSU Bakersfield responded with wins at No. 4 and No. 1 to even the dual. Ella Ensign and Vianna Garcia topped Anniina Muukka and Zoe Flueckiger 21-17, 21-18, while Erika Markentin and Oliv Silacci-Jensen defeated EJ Cudmore and Julia Radelczuk 21-18, 21-18.

The deciding point came at No. 3, where Danielle Hernandez and Lucie Nosálková battled through a three-set match against Vivi Kaelin and Kendall Kaelin. After dropping the second set, the Stetson duo rallied to claim the match 21-19, 15-21, 15-5 to secure the team victory.

Stetson carried that momentum into its matchup with Santa Clara, earning a 4-1 win to close out the tournament.

Ozaeta and Carro set the tone at the top spot with a 21-13, 21-16 victory over Sadie Snipes and Sammy Wood. Camp and Sutton added another point at No. 5, defeating Callie Loughran and Ava Stoddard 21-17, 21-18.

Cudmore and Radelczuk clinched the dual at No. 2 with a 21-18, 21-19 win over Avery Cukjati and Teagan Wilson. Hernandez and Nosalkova later finished the No. 3 flight with a 21-16, 21-19 victory against Noelle Niederman and Mandy Hansen.

Santa Clara's lone point came at No. 4, where Alexandra Urbina and Ciara Cantlen edged Muukka and Flueckiger in a three-set battle, 22-20, 24-22, 15-12.
