Hatters Conclude Final Tuneup Before ASUN Championships

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. -- The Stetson University men's golf team concluded its regular season with a sixth-place finish at the Giles-Spratley Intercollegiate today at Independence Golf Club.

The Hatters improved each round, culminating with a 2-under par in the final round, to finish the 54-hole tournament with an even par 864. The College of Charleston finished at the top of the 14-team leaderboard with a 13-stroke advantage over runner-up FGCU. The Cougars finished the tournament at 29-under par and led a 5-team contingent that finished with under par team scores.

Individually, Stetson junior Simon Engman led the Hatters by sharing 14th place with a 3-under par 213. The Gothenburg, Sweden native turned in rounds of 69-73-71 on tournament host Richmond's par 72, 7,135-yard home course.

Engman and teammate Thanattasorn Supinraj were among the tournament leaders in par 5 scoring over the 54 holes. Supinraj, who finished in a tie for 37th place at 2-over par 218, was fourth among the 84-golfer field, going 9-under on par 5 holes for a 4.25 scoring average. Engman went 7-under for a 4.42 average.

Graduate student transfer Matthis Lefèvre made a significant move up the leaderboard in today's final round, rising 31 spots after firing a 4-under par 68 to finish in a tie for 22nd place at even par. Senior Gaspar Glaudas shared 42nd place at 3-over par, while Gabriel Lindahl, playing as an individual shared 58th place at 6-over par. Jackson Hicks finished in a tie for 74th at 13-over.

Stetson joins the rest of the men's golf programs in the ASUN Conference at the league's annual championship tournament. Scheduled for April 21-23 at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga., the tournament champion earns the league's automatic berth into the NCAA regionals scheduled for May 18-20.
