DeLAND, Fla. – The Stetson University men's golf team opens the 2026-27 season this weekend, joining a talented 16-team field at the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate, sponsored by Carolina Wealth Advisors, Sept. 6-8 at Grande Dunes Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament is hosted by Coastal Carolina and features a strong collection of teams, including Appalachian State, Campbell, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Elon, Florida Atlantic, Illinois State, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, North Alabama, Stetson, UNC Wilmington, UTSA and Winthrop.
The Hatters, coached by sixth-year head coach Danny Forshey, will be represented by Uy Doan, Thanattasorn Supinraj, Gabriel Lindahl, Simon Engman and Jack Northgraves.
A Strong Test to Start the Season
Stetson's season-opening assignment provides an immediate opportunity to test itself against a number of southeast region programs. Florida Atlantic returns to Grande Dunes as the defending team champion, having captured last year's tournament by nine strokes at 26-under par. Coastal Carolina also opens its season at home with considerable momentum, while UNC Wilmington enters the event as the reigning CAA champion.
For Stetson, the tournament marks the beginning of a 2026-27 schedule that includes nine regular-season events, the ASUN Championship and the NCAA postseason. Following the Myrtle Beach event, the Hatters will return to competition at the FAU Invitational at The Bear's Club in Jupiter, Fla., Sept. 21-22.
Experienced Core Leads Hatters
The Hatters bring a mix of returning experience and new contributors to Myrtle Beach.
Engman enters his senior season after earning third-team All-ASUN honors for the second consecutive year in 2025-26. The Gothenburg, Sweden, native competed in all 11 tournaments last season and posted a 72.3 scoring average over 32 rounds, including 16 rounds at par or better and five rounds in the 60s. Engman also recorded six top-20 finishes, including a team-best tie for sixth at the ASUN Championship.
Lindahl, a senior from Stockholm, Sweden, also returns as one of the team's more experienced players having served the Hatters' lineup the last two seasons. After transferring to Stetson from Lindenwood, he has played in 10 events in two seasons and registered a pair of top-20 finishes in 2025-26.
A pair of sophomores will be looking to make a move as major contributors to the Hatter program this season. Supinraj, last year's ASUN Conference Freshman of the Year, is a native of Udon, Thailand and is coming off an impressive finish this summer as the top amateur at the professional Singha Classic. Doan transferred to Stetson from Southern Utah, where he led the team last season with a 72.6 stroke average and collected four top-10 finishes for the Thunderbirds.
Northgraves, from Scarborough, England, rounds out the starting five after transferring to Stetson following two seasons at Hutchinson Community College. He earned PING/NJCAA honorable mention All-America honors and led the Blue Dragons to consecutive top-5 national rankings.
Grande Dunes Provides Scenic Challenge
The Grande Dunes Resort Course offers a demanding opening test for the Hatters. Designed by Roger Rulewich, the course features sweeping fairways, strategic greens and five holes that play along the Intracoastal Waterway. The layout can stretch to approximately 7,600 yards and is known for its creative greens complexes and strategic shot-making demands.
The tournament will be played over 54 holes, with team scoring based on the four lowest scores among each team's five players in each round.
