DeLand, Fla. ? Stetson freshman Lauren Darnell (Gainesville, Fla.) earned the Atlantic Sun Conference Golfer of the Month honor for the month of March, announced by the league office on Thursday.
Darnell received the honor after taking the first place title in two tournaments in the month of March, as well as, leading the Stetson to the team titles in both tournaments.
Darnell won the Treasure Coast Women's Classic after carding a 70,71,71 to finish the three-round tournament with a 212 (-1). Darnell's total broke a Stetson record for lowest 54-hole total. The Hatters as a team also set a new team record for low three round tournament with a total of 887. As a team, the Hatters average score was 304.7, setting a new record for low tournament average at Stetson.
Darnell also took the top prize in the NIU Snowbird Tournament, shooting a two-round total of 152 (78, 74).
This honor is a first for Darnell and marks the first time that a Stetson student-athlete has been honored as such since September, 2003.
