Sakashita Claims Individual Title as Hatters Finish Fourth at Magnolia Collegiate Invitational

MOBILE, Ala. — Stetson women's golf used a strong finish from Isaki Sakashita to highlight a fourth-place showing at the Magnolia Collegiate Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday at RTJ Magnolia Grove Golf Course.

The Hatters finished fourth in the 14-team field at 40-over-par, closing with a 14-over-par final round. Stetson showed resilience throughout the tournament, climbing from fifth after the opening round and into fourth following a second-round surge that featured the second-lowest team score of the day.

Sakashita led the way from start to finish, ultimately capturing medalist honors for her first win of the season after back-to-back runner-up finishes in Stetson's previous two events. After opening with rounds of 74 and 73 to sit atop the leaderboard heading into the final day, Sakashita delivered when it mattered most.

The junior fired a 2-under-par 70 in Tuesday's final round — the lowest score recorded by any player in the field — to secure the individual title. She was steady throughout the round, carding a 35 on both the front and back nines to finish at 217 (74-73-70). Her performance capped a consistent week in which she led the Hatters and remained in contention throughout all three rounds.

Filippa Jansson added another top-10 finish for Stetson, tying for eighth at 10-over-par (75-74-77—226). Ailsa Brannock finished tied for 27th at 231 (78-75-78), while Julieta Oviedo placed tied for 35th at 233 (81-75-77) after improving her position following an opening-round 81.

Competing as an individual, freshman Maggie Potash tied for 52nd with a 237 total (78-76-83). Anna Huettl rounded out the Hatters lineup in a tie for 64th at 241 (78-84-78).

As a team, Stetson totaled 27 birdies and 162 pars across the three rounds. Sakashita tied for fourth in the field with nine birdies and also tied for fourth with 36 pars. Jansson matched that total with 36 pars of her own, underscoring the Hatters' consistency throughout the lineup.

The Hatters next tournament will take them out of the country as they head to Bermuda for the Bermuda Triangle Collegiate, hosted by Lehigh, on March 30-31 at the Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton.
