SUNSET BEACH, N.C. ? The Stetson (298-292-295=885, +21) men's golf squad finished in 15th following Sunday's final round at the season-opening Sea Trail Intercollegiate.
Elon (279-273-276=828, -36) led wire-to-wire winning the tournament by 18 strokes over second-place Murray State. USC Upstate's Josh Gallman (68-68-70=206) notched a 10-under par for the tournament and edged Elon's Phil Bartholomew (71-68-68=205) by one stroke. Jayson Judy of Elon fired Sunday's top score with a six-under, 66.
Sophomore Dave McAndrew (72-71-71=214) was consistent throughout the event and finished in a tie for 18th place. Teammate Thomas Parker (73-70-73=216) followed up in a 28th-place tie and senior Kris Stewart (76-75-74=225) improved every round while tying for 67th.
Red-shirt freshman Matt Pitts (77-76-77=230, T82nd) and senior Steven Neidermire (77-80-82=239, T92nd) rounded out the Stetson team.
The Hatters will return to the links Fri.-Sun., Oct. 5-7 at the Mission Inn Collegiate Inn Classic in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
