MIDLOTHIAN, Va. -- The Stetson University men's golf team concludes its regular season schedule tomorrow and Tuesday at the annual the Giles-Spratley Collegiate, hosted by the University of Richmond at Independence Golf Club.
Stetson joins a 14-team field that includes College of Charleston, Delaware, DePaul, East Carolia, FGCU, Jacksonville, James Madison, Liberty, Longwood, North Alabama, North Florida, host Richmond and VCU. The field will play 36 holes with a 9 a.m. shotgun start at the par 72, 7,135 yard golf course on Monday. The final round is scheduled to start Tuesday morning with tee times from 8 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. off hole nos. 1 and 10.
The Hatters, ranked 68th in this week's Clippd Scoreboard NCAA Division I rankings, will be represented by Simon Engman, Jackson Hicks, Gaspar Glaudas, Matthis Lefèvre and Thanattasorn Supinraj. The top four scores at the end of each round count toward the team total. Junior Gabriel Lindahl will be competing as an individual with his scores not counting toward the team totals.
Stetson has claimed team titles three times this season, including twice among its four events during the spring. The team has also finished among the top five in eight of nine tournaments throughout the year.
Supinraj, a freshman from Udon Thani, Thailand, will be making his collegiate debut as part of Stetson's five eligible scoring golfers. He has played in four events this year, all as an individual.
The marketing major has a 73.8 scoring average and is coming off consecutive strong performances. He finished tied for 13th at the Sam Ryder Intercollegiate with a 2-over par 218, then turned in a 3-over par 219 to share 26th place at the Seahawk Intercollegiate. His career-low 68 last week in Wilmington, N.C. was the third-lowest first round score of the field and the best among the tournament's individual competitors.
Independence Golf Club has served as the home course of the Richmond University men's and women's golf teams since 2014-15. Designed by Tom Fazio and owned and operated by the Virginia State Golf Association Foundation, the course opened in October, 2001. The parkland-style layout was renovated a decade ago and features rolling, wooded terrain with scenic water features.
Following the Gile-Spratley Collegiate, Stetson will enter its championship season at the annual ASUN Championship on April 21-23 at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga.
