Fort Myers, Fla. ? The Stetson women's golf team stands in third place out of 13 teams after Monday's first two rounds of the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational. Junior Danielle Jackson (Seminole, Fla.) followed up an opening 75 with the field's best score of the second round, a three under-par 69 that left her tied for second out of 70 golfers at Pelican Preserve Golf Club.
Jackson is tied at even par with Belen Buendia (FIU) and Marianne Andersson, seven strokes behind Buendia's Golden Panther teammate Paula Hurtado. Jackson's fellow junior Lauren Darnell (Gainesville, Ga.) is tied for 24th place with freshman Jen Gartin (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) at nine over par after 36 holes. Darnell shot 75-78 while Gartin rebounded from an 81 in the first round with an even par 72 the second time around. Jackson and Gartin were two of only seven players in the field to shoot par or better in Round 2.
Freshman Lauren Cate (Jacksonville, Fla.) started out hot with a one over par 73 but could not sustain her momentum in the second round, finishing with an 83 that left her tied for 39th place at +12. Sophomore Alex Banham (Birmingham, England) rounded out the Stetson quintet with scores of 89 and 79; she is in 66th place at +24 with one round left to play.
The Hatters improved their team score by six strokes from the first round to the second and find themselves at 26 over par, one shot better than fourth place USF. Host FIU (+6) enjoys a five-shot advantage over second-place Florida Southern (+11) heading into the final round tomorrow.
