Jacksonville, Ala. ? The Stetson men's golf team placed ninth of 11 teams at the Grub Mart Intercollegiate this week, hosted by Jacksonville State at Silver Lakes Golf Club.  Freshman Michael Stewart (Edgewater, Fla.) led the Hatters by tying for 12^th place overall.

Stewart improved upon his first two scores of 77 with a final round of even par 72 to finish the 72-hole event at 10 over par.  Tommy Parker (Palm Beach, Fla.), a junior, shot 79-73-76=228 (+12) to tie for 22^nd in the field of 61 golfers while sophomore Dave McAndrew (Barrington, R.I.) came in two strokes behind Parker at +14 (78-77-75).

Also competing for Stetson was freshman Gabe Costa (Tequesta, Fla.) and senior Steven Neidermire (Medfield, Mass.)  Costa shot 75-82-82=239 (+23) to tie for 49^th and Neidermire struggled to scores of 80-82-94=256 (+40).

As a team, the Hatters recorded a score of +59 to finish in ninth place, two shots out of a tie with High Point and Tennessee-Martin for seventh.  The host JSU Gamecocks won the event with a +22 mark, three shots better than their Ohio Valley Conference rivals Murray State.  Southern Miss (+35) was third, followed by Presbyterian (+36), Columbus State (+41) and Armstrong Atlantic (+56).  Stetson finished ahead of Morehead State (+68) and Nicholls State (+81).
