Buies Creek, N.C. ? The Stetson men's golf team placed 10^th out of 14 teams at the Lonnie D. Small Spring Classic, hosted by Campbell University at Keith Hills Country Club.  Freshman Gabe Costa (Tequesta, Fla.) led the Hatters by tying for 11^th place overall.

Costa shot rounds of 74-72 to finish at two over-par 146 in the two-day event, five strokes behind individual medalist Josh Gallman of USC Upstate.  He was the only Hatter to shoot a round of even par or better in the tournament.  Sophomore Dave McAndrew (Barrington, R.I.) shot 75-76=151 (+7) to tie for 32^nd place while junior Tommy Parker (Palm Beach, Fla.) rounded out the scoring pack with 73-79=152 (+8).  Senior Steven Neidermire (Medfield, Mass.) also competed for Stetson and shot rounds of 78-82=160 (+16) to tie for 67^th place.

The host Camels won the team championship at 583 (+7), one stroke better than Elon.  Another Atlantic Sun rival, Gardner-Webb (589, +13) finished third.  Radford was fourth at +16, followed by A-Sun schools Florida Gulf Coast (+20) and USC Upstate (+22), Longwood (+26), San Francisco (+30), Davidson (+31) and the Hatters (+33).

Stetson beat out Seton Hall (+37), James Madison (+43), George Mason (+44) and Towson (+52) in the 36-hole competition.

Head Coach Bob Weickel's Hatters next compete at the Jacksonville State Grub Mart Intercollegiate at Silver Lakes Golf Club in Gadsden, Ala. March 17-18.
