Men's Golf Stetson University

Hatters Tie for Seventh at Jacksonville State Event

Jacksonville, Ala. ? The Stetson men's golf team tied for seventh place in the 36-hole Grub Mart-Young Oil Intercollegiate, hosted by Jacksonville State University Monday and Tuesday.  Junior Dave McAndrew (Barrington, R.I.) tied for 17th place as the top individual Hatter.

The Hatters slipped from fourth place after the first round to a final tie for seventh by struggling to score Tuesday at Silver Lakes Golf Club.  McAndrew bucked the trend by improving from a first round 75 with an even par 72 to finish three over par for the tournament, eight strokes behind medalist Mark Whisenant of JSU.  Freshman Sam Ryder (Longwood, Fla.) shot 76-73 to tie for 23rd place at +5, sophomore Gabe Costa (Tequesta, Fla.) carded back-to-back 77s to tie for 44th place at + 10, senior Tommy Parker (Palm Beach, Fla.) shot 75-80 and tied for 53rd one shot back and freshman Andrew Schiano (Orlando, Fla.) came in with 74-82 in a 61st place tie at +12.

Austin Peay finished four under par as a team for 36 holes and rolled to a 10-stroke victory over the host Gamecocks.  Also finishing ahead of the Hatters were Presbyterian (+10), Columbus State (+13), Armstrong Atlantic (+18) and Birmingham Southern (+25) while Stetson tied for seventh at +26 with IUPUI.  Samford (+29), Morehead State (+35), High Point (+39), Tennessee Tech (+40) and Tennessee-Martin (+41) rounded out the field.

Stetson next tees it up at the Larry Nelson Collegiate in Braselton, Ga., hosted by A-Sun rival Kennesaw State March 30-31 at the Woodlands at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga.  That course served as the host site for last year's Atlantic Sun Conference Championships.
