Mobile, Ala. - The Stetson women's golf team is in third place, just two strokes off the lead, after the first round of the University of South Alabama Lady Jaguar Invitational at Azalea City Golf Club. Sophomore Lauren Cate (St. Augustine, Fla.) and freshman Alexandria Buelow (Palm City, Fla.) are among four players tied for the lead at one over par. The 16 teams and five individuals in the field started the second round as well on Monday, but failed to finish before darkness. The second and third rounds will be completed tomorrow.
Buelow and Cate each shot 73 and are tied for the lead with FIU's Cristina Marin and Winthrop's Kayla Cline. Senior Danielle Jackson (Seminole, Fla.) shot 77 and is tied for 16th while junior Alex Banham (Birmingham, England) is tied for 34th after carding an 80. Senior Lauren Darnell (Gainesville, Ga.) shot 83 and is tied for 56th; freshman Anna Hancock (Lakeland, Fla.) is competing as an individual this week and is tied for 42nd place following a first round 81.
FIU leads the tournament at 13 over par, one stroke ahead of Troy and two shots ahead of the Hatters. Memphis (+16), Winthrop (+17), Lamar (+22), Samford (+22), host South Alabama (+23), Jacksonville State (+23), West Florida (+23), Southern Miss (+30), Marshall (+34), Jackson State (+37), UAB (+39), Alabama State (+55), and Centenary (+56) round out the field.
