Weickel Set To Lead Hatters One Final Time

Men's Golf Stetson University

Stetson Men's Golf Signs Snellings, Taylor

DeLand, Fla. - Stetson head men's golf coach Bob Weickel has signed two talented newcomers to play for the Hatters starting in 2011-12.  Blake Snellings (Atlanta, Ga.) and Matt Taylor (Naples, Fla.) will be freshmen at Stetson this fall.

Snellings was the captain of the golf team at Holy Innocents Episcopal School in his native Atlanta, where he was a Headmaster's List and Honor Roll student.  On the golf course, Snellings was the 2010 regional medalist and led Head Coach Jim Griffin's Golden Bears to back-to-back 5A regional championships and state tournament third place finishes in 2009 and 2010.

Taylor, who will re-unite with high school teammate Matt Lawrence at Stetson, was the 2010 Collier County champion and a four-time All-County selection at BCHS.  He played to a 72.8 stroke average his senior year of high school and helped lead the Cougars to four county, two district and two regional championships.  Three times a runner-up in the county championship and twice a district second place finisher, Taylor chose the Hatters over Belmont, Elon, Loyola (Ill.) and Villanova.

Stetson returns four of the five golfers that competed for it in the 2011 Atlantic Sun Conference Championships, including two-time Second Team All-Atlantic Sun rising senior Sam Ryder (Longwood, Fla.).
