Men's Golf

Stetson Men’s Golf Heads To South Carolina

DeLAND, Fla. – The Stetson University men's golf team competes in the penultimate tournament of its fall season at the 55th Furman Intercollegiate scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the par-71, 7,131-yard Furman University Golf Club.

The Hatters will be competing against a competitive 15-team field that includes Campbell University, Davidson College, Francis Marion University, host Furman University, James Madison University, Georgia State University, High Point University, Mercer University, University of Richmond, University of South Carolina Aiken, Virginia Tech, Western Kentucky University, Winthrop University and Wofford College.

Stetson is scheduled to start on holes 10-13 and, for the first two rounds, is paired with golfers from Georgia State and Mercer. Live event results will be available throughout the tournament by clicking here.

Each team will compete with five golfers with the lowest four scores from each round counting toward the team total. Round one of the 54-hole tournament tees off on Saturday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Round two will follow immediately upon completion of round one. Final round action is scheduled to begin Sunday with teams teeing off on No. 1 and No. 10 starting at 8:20 a.m.

Stetson's lineup will include Simon Engman, Gaspar Glaudas, Matthis Lefèver, Gabriel Lindahl and Rasmus Ronnberg. Thanattasorn Supinraj will also compete in the event as an individual. His scores will not factor into the team standings.

The Furman University Golf Course was designed by Richard K. Webel of Long Island, N.Y., and Walter Cosby, superintendent of grounds and greens at the Greenbriar Hotel and Golf Resort. The course was redesigned by Kris Spence in 2010. Since the late 1970s, the course has been the site of two college tournaments, the Furman Intercollegiate and the Lady Paladin Invitational. In addition, the course hosts a number of local and state tournaments.

Through the years, a number of familiar names have played the course and participated in the Furman Intercollegiate. Past winners include Curtis Strange, Jay Haas, Mark Calcavecchia, Billy Andrade, Matt Kuchar and Brad Faxon.

Last year, Texas A&M University claimed the team title by two strokes over the host Paladins by carding a 23-under par with Wake Forest finishing in third place at 19-under. Demon Deacon senior Scotty Kennon registered the lowest 54-hole score in the history of the Furman Intercollegiate to take home medalist honors with an 11-under par 202.

This marks Stetson's fourth of five scheduled events of the fall season, following appearances at the Whirlwind Collegiate Invitational in Chandler, Ariz., the William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. and the West Bay Collegiate in Estero, Fla.

Arkansas transfer Lefèver leads the Hatters with a 70.1 scoring average and has posted scores of par or better in eight of his nine rounds this season. The native of Hossegor, France, finished in a fourth place tie at the West Bay Collegiate at 11-under par.

The Hatters conclude their busy fall schedule at the Florida Atlantic Invitational at Panther National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. on Oct. 27-28.
