Baton Rouge, La. - The eighth-ranked Stetson beach volleyball team earned a pair of 5-0 victories over Louisiana Monroe and New Orleans Sunday at the LSU Tiger Beach Challenge.
After splitting two matches against ranked opponents Georgia State and LSU on Saturday, the Hatters (9-1) completed the tournament with a 3-1 mark.
"Overall, I am pretty happy with how we performed this weekend," Stetson head coach Kristina Hernandez said. "Georgia State was a tough match for us. They are a veteran team. I thought we had opportunities to win, but we just came up a little bit short.
"For us to bounce back pretty quickly and beat a tough LSU team was a great way for us to finish that first day," Hernandez continued. "LSU has gotten a lot better and they have a good win over FIU, so that was a really good win for us.
"Today we got two 5-0 wins. All of our seeds are doing really well. I am really pleased with our freshmen. We are pretty young compared to some of these teams that we are playing, aned we are hanging in there from a mental toughness standpoint. I am excited to take this week to clean up a few things and get ready for conference."
The Hatters won in straight sets in eight of the 10 pairs matches on Sunday. At the No. 1 seed, Sara Putt and Vendy Strakova improved to 10-0 on the season with 2-0 victories over both opponents.
At the No. 2 seed with Kristin Lind and Rachel Noble, and at the No. 4 seed with Madison Akins and Lauren Durham, the Hatters won 2-1 vs. ULM and 2-0 vs. New Orleans.
No. 3 pair Kaylee Anderson and Emily Carroll and No. 5 pair Jamie Walsh and Alexa Richardson each won 2-0 in their four combined matches.
Now with nine victories on the season, Stetson will return home to start conference play on Friday against Jacksonville and FGCU.
