Hatters Fall at Florida Atlantic

BOCA RATON, Fla.—Loic Blanco was the only Hatter to emerge victorious as Stetson dropped a 6-1 decision to Florida Atlantic, Saturday in men's tennis.

Despite the lopsided team score, it was a tight match between the Hatters and Owls. Two of the three doubles matches were decided in tiebreakers, while two singles matches went three sets.

"This was another tough battle with a lot of close matches and sets," Stetson head coach Christophe Noblet said. "Our doubles is definitely improving, and we came one point away from taking that early lead against a red hot FAU team. They have won a lot lately, and showed a bit more confidence in the tight moments. We are making good progress and will learn a lot from this match. Time now to recover and prepare for an upcoming challenging weekend at Georgia Southern. "

The Hatters (2-2) lost the doubles point but not before pushing FAU to the limit. Blanco and his partner Colter DeCoste earned a 6-4 win at No. 1, but the teams of William Shkrob and Angus Bradhsaw at No.2, and Coilin MacNamara and Graham Ball at No. 3 lost 4-0 tiebreakers as FAU took a 1-0 lead into singles play.

FAU won the first five singles matches. Ball suffered his first singles loss of the spring with a straight set defeat at No. 2. Shkrob pushed his opponent to the limit at No. 3 before falling 6-0 in the third set.

Both Pierre-Emmanuel Fossier and MacNamara needed tiebreakers to decide their first sets, but both ultimately lost in straight sets at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.

Blanco won the final singles match of the day at No. 1, securing a 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 win to help Stetson avoid the sweep.

The Hatters face Gardner-Webb and Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga., next weekend.
