Hatters Ease Past Gardner-Webb

STATESBORO, Ga.--Stetson men's tennis blanked Gardner-Webb by a 4-0 score, Saturday at Georgia Southern's Hanner Tennis Complex.
 
The Hatters (3-2) opened the match by winning the doubles point and reeled off three straight wins in singles action to gain the victory.
 
"Our top two doubles teams really played some aggressive tennis today, which was fun to watch," head coach Christophe Noblet said. "We then used that momentum to take early leads on a few courts in singles, and we were able to grab three wins fairly quickly. I am happy with the way we played, moving forward and embracing the short balls. That is definitely our brand of tennis, and I am looking forward to watch the guys apply it again tomorrow against a tough Georgia Southern team. It is going to be a battle, but we are ready for it."
 
The Hatters (3-2) opened doubles play with a 6-2 win by Loic Blanco and Colter DeCoste at No. 1. After a 6-2 loss at No. 3, the Hatters clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win by the freshmen duo of Angus Bradshaw and William Shkrob at No. 2.
 
Leading 1-0, the Hatters quickly built upon their early lead. Pierre-Emmanuel Fossier gave Stetson a 2-0 advantage with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4. Bradshaw earned a 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 2 as Stetson surged to a 3-0 advantage.
 
Shkrob clinched the match for the Hatters with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3.
 
The Hatters have a quick turnaround for their next match as the face Georgia Southern, 1 p.m., Sunday.
