Williamsburg, Va. – After fighting through heavy rain and storms on Sunday, the field at the William & Mary Invitational enjoyed better weather for Monday's final round of golf, but the scores edged higher across the field.
The Stetson Hatters, playing with four new players, posted their highest score of the tournament, a 309, but were able to move up one spot in the final standings, edging past the team from the U.S. Naval Academy by one shot to finish sixth.
Marshall, which took the tournament lead with a 290 in the second round, held off Richmond by one shot for the team title. The Thundering Herd and Spiders both finished with final round scores of 306. James Madison posted the low round of the day on Monday, a 303, to finish third.
The Hatters were led by junior
Justine Lauer, who tied for fourth in her first event at Stetson after transferring from Utah Valley State. Lauer posted a pair of even par (72) rounds on Sunday before closing with a four-over 76 on Monday.
Lauer finished 10 shots behind tournament medalist Shelby Brauckmuller of Marshall, who was the only player in the field to break par in the final round with a one-under 71. She finished the event with a 10-under par score of 210 to take medalist honors by four shots over Lauren Comegys of James Madison.
Stetson sophomore
Meghan McLean also earned a top 20 finish in her first event for the Hatters. After opening with a 79 on Sunday she bounced back with round of 73 and 74 to finish at 10-over par 226, tied for 17
th.

Sarah May and freshman
Bianca Sol Cruz tied for 41
st overall, both posting overall scores of 238. Sophomore
Elizabeth Jackson finished tied for 59
th in her first event for the Hatters.
The Hatters will not have much time to rest before getting right back into competition this weekend at the USA Intercollegiate in Mobile, Ala. Live scoring will be available all three days – September 15-17 – from Magnolia Grove Golf Club at Golfstat.com.
