Statesboro, Ga. – The Stetson women's golf team had hoped to build some confidence and momentum during the final tournament of the spring prior to the ASUN Championship in three weeks.
Instead, the Hatters, along with the other six teams in the Strutter Gus Invitational, took a beating at the hands of the weather and the Georgia Southern University golf course.
Stetson finished fourth in the seven-team field, posting three of its four worst scores of the year during the two-day event.
The Hatters were not alone in their struggles. The host Eagles won the tournament on their home course, but failed to break 300 in any of the three rounds. GSU posted the three lowest team round of the tournament, but finished with a 47-over par final score of 911.
Stetson opened the tournament on Sunday with a 314, but improved to 309 in the second round. Tuesday's final round resulted in a 326, which was the highest single round for a Stetson women's team since the 2014 Xavier Invitational at LPGA. All six Stetson players posted scores in the 80s on Tuesday.
A pair of players tied for medalist honors in the tournament. Bibilani Liu of Boston College and Ansley Bowman matched each other throughout the tournament to finish tied at 224, eight-over par. Both players opened with rounds of 74 and both followed with consecutive rounds of 75.
Stetson junior Justin Lauer was the top finisher for the Hatters despite posting a final round 81. She had scores of 79 and 72 on Monday, finishing eighth in the tournament with a 16-over par 232.
