Braselton, Ga. – The Stetson women's golf team struggled to the finish in the 2019 ASUN Championship Tournament on Tuesday, finishing fourth in the seven-team tournament.
For the second-consecutive year, and fourth time in program history, Kennesaw State captured the ASUN Championship title led by top-three performances from Medy Thavong, Roanne Tomlinson and Clara Aveling. Thavong became the fifth Owl in to claim medalist honors joining Madison Caldwell (2018), Aveling (2016), Dulcie Sverdloff (2015) and Ines Lescudier (2013).
Thavong led from wire-to-wire after posting a share of the lead after the opening round on Sunday. The senior finished with a three-stroke victory after a final round 78. As a team, the Owls posted a 13-stroke victory with FGCU taking second place and North Florida in third.
Hatters junior
Justine Lauer, who had a share of the tournament lead after the opening round, bounced back with a two-over par 75 in the final round to finish tied for fifth in her first ASUN Championship tournament.
None of the other Hatters players managed to break 80 in the final round. Sophomore
Hanna Kiefer closed with an 80 while fellow sophomore Meghan McLain and freshman
Bianca Sol Cruz finished with matching 85s. Sophomore
Sarah May closed with an 86.
Lauer's tie for fifth earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team.
