Helland-Hansen and Perales Earn AVCA Honorable Mention All-America Honors

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson University beach volleyball juniors Sunniva Helland-Hansen (Øystese, Norway) and Carly Perales (Round Rock, Texas) have been named Honorable Mention All-Americans by the AVCA, the organization announced on Wednesday.

As Stetson's No. 1 pair, Helland-Hansen and Perales went 27-12 on the season, winning 11 matches against ranked opponents. On April 12, the duo defeated three ranked opponents on the same day to help Stetson sweep its three duals against FAU and FIU.

Helland-Hansen and Perales earned ASUN first team all-conference honors for the second year in a row after going 8-0 in league play.  They were selected as the ASUN Pair of the Week three times, and they became Stetson's first pair to earn AVCA/CollegeBeachVB.com National Pair of the Week honors after going 4-0 at the Gamecock Grand Slam. They are also Stetson's all-time winningest pair with 72 career victories (72-26).

Helland-Hansen and Perales are the second set of Hatters to earn AVCA All-America honors.  Vendy Strakova and Sara Putt were selected in 2016.

The Hatters (30-10) posted their second straight 30-win season and advanced to the final six of the NCAA Championship for the first time in school history.  They defeated top-ranked and No. 1 seed Southern Cal in the first round of the tournament and ranked sixth in the final AVCA Coaches poll.
