Kiawah Island, SC – After a disappointing opening round on Sunday at the Kiawah Island Classic, the Stetson women's golf team rebounded in a big way on Monday, surging 13 spots up the leader board.
The Hatters will enter Tuesday's final round at the event, which is the largest collegiate tournament in the nation, in fifth place, within striking distance of the tournament championship.
After posting a team score of 300 at the Osprey Point Golf Club on Sunday, resulting in the team being tied for 18
th place in the 53-team event, the Hatters rebounded with an even par 288 on Monday at the Oak Point Golf Club. Stetson is one shot behind IUPUI for fourth place and six behind the host team from the College of Charleston.
Boston University has the lead going into the final day of play. The Terriers followed a one-over par 289 in the first round with a two under par 286 on Monday. Florida Gulf Coast sits in second place, five shots off the lead, and two ahead of Charleston.
Senior
Erikah Neger turned in the best round of her career on Monday, posting a four under par 68. Her round featured four birdies, two bogeys and an eagle on the par five fourth hole. Neger is tied for 16
th in the individual standings with a one-over par 145 for her 36 holes of play.
Junior
Hanna Kiefer has continued her strong play after winning the Hatters' last tournament at Marsh Landing. Kiefer had a two-over par 74 on Sunday but came back on Monday with a two-under par 70. Her round also included four birdies and two bogeys. She will open the final round tied for 11
th.
Sophomore
Bianca Sol Cruz followed her opening round 76 with a three-over par 75 in the second round. She also had an eagle three on her card on the eighth hole.
Junior
Meghan McLean struggled in her second round after carding a one over par 73 on Sunday at Osprey Point. Her round on Monday at Oak Point included two birdies and 10 bogeys. She is tied for 95
th in the field of 264 players.
Senior
Justine Lauer bounced back from an opening round 79 to post a 75 on Monday, moving up 34 spots on the individual leaderboard into a tie for 106
th.
The Hatters will be back at the Osprey Point Club for Tuesday's final round of play. Stetson is paired with Wofford, USC Upstate and Fairleigh Dickinson. Play will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
Live scoring for the tournament is available through Golfstat.com, but scores are only updated after play on holes 9 and 18.
