Hatters Finish 11th at Jackrabbit Invitational

Boulder City, Nev. – After getting off to a solid start on Friday in the opening round Jackrabbit Invitational at the Boulder Creek Golf Club, the Stetson Hatters slowly slipped out of contention, finishing 11th in the 13-team field.

The Hatters posted an opening round score of 296 but followed up with rounds of 304 and 314 to finish with a 50-over par total of 914. Oral Roberts led the tournament from the start, opening with a 12-under par 276 and cruising to a 15-under par score of 849 to win by 22 shots over second place Nevada.

UNLV, which had four players competing as individuals in the tournament, which was hosted by South Dakota State, actually would have finished second in the team event. The Rebels matched the opening round 276 from Oral Roberts, but closed with a 299 on Saturday.

Dustin Halsey of Oral Roberts coasted to a four-shot victory in the tournament. He opened the event with a bogey-free 63 (-9) in the first round and followed up with rounds of 69 and 71 to finish with a 13-under par 203.

Hatters' senior Chris Williard was one-over par after rounds of 73 and 72 on Friday and in the hunt for a top 10 finish, but he couldn't find any birdies on Saturday, finishing with a 78 to drop into a tie for 29th with a seven-over par 223.

Sophomore Carson Tewell (74-78-76=228) tied for 45th, freshman Mason Quagliata (72-77-80=229) tied for 47th, freshman Jonathan Lumley (77-79-80=236) tied for 65th and sophomore Ben Resnick (83-77-80=240) finished 71st.

The Hatters will be back in action in two weeks when they travel to Muscle Shoals, Ala., to play in the UNA Spring Classic. That event, the last on the schedule before the ASUN Championship in April, is scheduled for March 23-24.
