Greensboro, Ga. – If the Stetson men's golf team was unsure of its capabilities going into Tuesday's final round at The National Intercollegiate, the Hatters answered those lingering questions.
The Hatters posted the low round of the day in the final round of the tournament, hosted by Mercer, to move up three spots in the standings, finishing sixth in the 13-team event. Stetson's two-under par team round moved the Hatters past Jacksonville State, Morehead State and Kennesaw State.
Stetson was led by graduate
Nick Montes with a two-under par round of 70. He finished the day with three birdies and one bogey. Montes moved up nine spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for seventh with a one-under par total of 215.
Fellow graduate
Chris Williard posted a one-under par final round of 71 that featured four birdies and three bogeys. He finished tied for 19
th with a three-over par total of 219.
Junior
Benjamin Resnick was even par for the day thanks to a two under on the Bluff Course. He finished the day with a team best five birdies to go with five bogeys. His final round performance moved him up 16 spots on the leaderboard, finishing tied for 38
th.
Freshman
Truman Keppy was one bad hole away from a great round. He was two-under par when he reached the ninth hole on the Ridge Course, posting a triple bogey there. He played the Bluff Course at even par to finish the day at one over. Keppy finished tied with Williard for 19
th in the tournament.
Sophomore
Mason Quagliata finished the final round with a three-over par 75. He finished tied for 60
th overall.
UT-Martin took home the tournament championship as the Skyhawks coasted to a nine-shot lead over North Alabama, which finished second. Troy University's Brent Hamm posted a final round 65 that included a pair of Eagles on the Bluff Course, to move into a tie for medalist honors with UT-Martin's Nick Wolf. Wolf posted a final round 71 as both players finished with 12-under par scores of 204.
The Hatters will be back in action in two weeks when they play in the annual Old Corkscrew Intercollegiate in Estero, Fla. That event will serve as the final tune-up before the ASUN Championship, which will be played at the University of Georgia Golf Course April 18-20.
