Stetson redshirt sophomore
Mason Quagliata battled through heavy wind and near freezing temperatures early this week to capture his first collegiate tournament title at the Aggie Invitational in Greensboro, NC.
Â
Today he was recognized for that performance as the co-ASUN Player of the Week. Quagliata shared the weekly award with North Florida's Nick Gabrelcik who was the co-medalist at The John Hayt Invitational in Ponte Vedra Beach.
Â
Quagliata's second round 70 on the wind-swept Bryan Park Golf Course was the low-round of the opening day of play and he followed up with a final round score of 73 to coast to an eight-shot victory over his closest competition.
Â
His victory in the Aggie Invitational was not only his first win, but his first collegiate top 10 finish.
Â
Quagliata's efforts helped the Hatters to their first team victory since 2011. In his third season as a member of the Stetson team, Quagliata has battled back from a car accident earlier this spring that caused him to miss out on playing in a tournament for the first time in his career.
Â
His per round scoring average is 74.87 this season and he has lowered his career average to 75.09 through 58 rounds of competition.
Â
Quagliata and the Hatters will return to action April 11-12 at the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate at the Hermitage Golf Club's President's Reserve Course in Old Hickory, Tenn. The 2022 ASUN Championship will be played April 24-26 at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga.
