Jacksonville, Fla. – After three weeks away from competition, the Stetson women's golf team will return to action on Monday morning, opening play in the UNF Collegiate at the Jacksonville Golf & Country Club.
The Hatters, and 16 other teams, will begin play on Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start before a scheduled 36 holes of play. Stetson is matched with new ASUN member Central Arkansas as well as Western Kentucky for the opening day of play and will open the tournament on holes 13-15.
The Stetson squad did not have a strong performance its last time out, finishing tied for seventh at the First Coast Classic. The Hatters finished 12
th at last spring's UNF Collegiate but enter the event this year with two new players among the five on the team for the event.
Graduate
Hanna Kiefer will be especially looking forward to a better performance in her final appearance at this event after struggling to a 28-over par finish last year. In 2019 she played the same course to an 11-over par finish, tied for 37
th.
Junior
Wendy Hsiao played in the event for the first time last year, posting a 22-over par score of 238. Senior
Bianca Sol Cruz has enjoyed the most success on the course, having posted a 13-over par 229 last spring.
That trio will be joined this year by redshirt sophomore
Lisa Colee and freshman
Catalina Rendo, who will both be playing in this tournament for the first time. Colee was second, behind Kiefer, at the First Coast Classic three weeks ago, posting her first even par round as a collegian in that tournament.
Rendo made her collegiate debut at the First Coast Classic and will be looking to improve on her performance.
The field for the 2022 UNF Collegiate includes six ASUN teams – UNF, FGCU, Stetson, Jacksonville State, Central Arkansas and Eastern Kentucky – plus teams from Furman, North Texas, Chattanooga, Sam Houston State, Georgia Southern, Xavier, Penn State, South Alabama, Western Kentucky, Daytona State and Cincinnati.
The course has been set up to play to a par of 72 covering 5,926 yards for this years' event.
