LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. - The Stetson Women's Golf team recently competed in the Pat Bradley Invite hosted by Florida International University at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club's Cypress Links course. The tournament, which spanned from October 14 to 16, 2023, featured a competitive field of 12 teams, including Miami, Western Kentucky, FGCU, Seminole State, FIU, Cincinnati, Daytona State, Wyoming, South Dakota, Northern Illinois and South Alabama. Despite the challenging conditions posed by the 6234-yard, par-72 course, the Hatters secured a commendable 9th place finish.
Among the standout performers was Wendy Hsiao, who tied for 12th place with a final score of 2-over-par. Hsiao's impressive performance included an opening round of 69, followed by a solid 76 in the second round, and a final-day score of 73, resulting in a total score of 218.
Julieta Oviedo showcased consistency, tying for 29th place with a +8 score. Oviedo's steady performance was marked by scores of 74, 75, and 75, contributing to the team's overall effort.
Filippa Jansson demonstrated resilience, bouncing back from a challenging start to finish T36 with a +10 score. Her final-round score of 73 showcased her determination and resiliance.
Lisa Colee secured a T52 finish, shooting +15, while Darby Nuxol rounded out the Hatters effort with a 75th place finish, a score of 260 and a low of 81 in the final round
As a team, Stetson's performance was characterized by 161 pars and 24 birdies, however, they shot no eagles in today's tourney.
Individual highlights include Colee's performance on Par 3s, with an average of 2.92, highlighting her proficiency on these shorter holes. Hsiao excelled on Par 5s, with an average of 4.75, demonstrating her ability to capitalize on longer-distance holes. The competition saw both Jansson and Hsiao neck-and-neck with pars, recording 39 and 38, respectively.
In terms of birdies, Oviedo led the team with nine, followed closely by Hsiao with eight.
The team's next challenge awaits at the Mercer Invitational, hosted by Mercer University at the River Forest Golf Club in Macon, Georgia, from October 30 to 31, 2023.
