CHARLESTON, S.C. - In the wake of a remarkable triumph at the USF Invitational, the Stetson University golf team showcased their prowess once again at the Daniel Island Intercollegiate, hosted by Charleston Southern. Competing against 17 other formidable teams, the Hatters secured a 5th place finish.
The team finished -4, amassing round scores of 291, 282, and 287 for a total score of 860 across the tournament. Dominic Clemons emerged as a standout performer, securing a T-4 position after finishing 5 under par. Clemons displayed remarkable consistency, bouncing back from an initial round of 72 with subsequent scores of 69 and 70, culminating in a total score of 211.
Joining Clemons were Javier Calles and John Houchin, both finishing at T-15 with an even score. Calles showcased scores of 71, 73, and 72, while Houchin's rounds of 74, 69, and 73 contributed to their total score of 216.
Truman Keppy, who recently broke a program record with a phenomenal 64 in the USF Invitational's opening round, secured a T29 position with scores of 75, 71, and 72, totaling 218. Bradley Goldstein rounded out the team's performance at T86 with a score of +13.
The team statistics further underscored Stetson's exceptional performance. With an average of 4.02 on Par 4s, the team ranked third lowest among the competitors, and a 4.87 average on Par 5s. Throughout the tournament, the team secured 177 pars and 42 birdies.
Clemons boasted a 3.08 average on Par 3s and a second-lowest 3.87 average on Par 4s. Keppy maintained a solid 3.93 average on Par 4s, while Houchin bested the Par 5s with a 4.75 average.
In terms of individual achievements, Calles and Clemons secured 40 and 39 pars, respectively, with Houchin leading the team with an impressive 11 birdies. Clemons and Keppy weren't far behind, both tallying 10 birdies each.
Looking ahead, the team will now have a few months to refine their skills before the upcoming World Golf Village Collegiate at King & Bear Golf Course in February.
