SANFORD, FLA. - The Stetson Hatters women's golf team emerged triumphant at the Seminole State Warm-Up tournament, hosted by Seminole State College at the picturesque Mayfair Country Club in Sanford, FL from Sept. 9th to Sept. 10th. At the forefront of this remarkable achievement were the formidable duo of
Filippa Jansson and
Grace Smith.
The first round saw Jansson shoot a commendable 75, with Smith closely behind at 76. However, the true magic happened in the second round, as both Jansson and Smith bounced back with outstanding scores of 71 each, finishing with remarkable averages of 73 and 73.5 respectively. Their total scores of 146 and 147 played a pivotal role in Stetson's triumphant performance.
Additionally,
Wendy Hsiao and
Lisa Colee, with rounds of 77 and 73 in the first round, showed their prowess on the course. They continued to impress with scores of 76 and 80, respectively, in the second round, resulting in averages of 76.5 each.
Victoria Leach rounded out the Hatters' exceptional team, finishing in a respectable T-30th place with an average score of 82.5.
Notably, two individuals from the Stetson team also made their mark.
Maddie Heister tied for 14th place with a series of consistent scores: 77 in the first round, 79 in the second round, and a final score of 78. In another remarkable performance,
Darby Nuxol secured a commendable 21st place with scores of 84, 76, and a total score of 80. The two finished second and third amongst all individual golfers in the tournament.
In the final leaderboard, the Stetson Hatters women's golf team dominated the competition, finishing in first place with a total score of 599 (+39), following rounds of 301 (+21) and 298 (+18). This incredible performance left the second-place team and tournament host, Seminole State, trailing by a margin of 3 strokes, with a total score of 602 (+42).
The team now gears up for their upcoming outing at the Hoover Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama, from September 18th to 19th. They will be participating in the Hoover Invite, hosted by UAB, ready to carry the momentum of their recent success into this new competition.
