Coming Off Strong 3rd Place Finish in Missouri, Hatters Set Their Sights on VCU Shootout

Coming off a strong showing in Missouri, the Hatters are setting their sights on the 2023 VCU Shootout. The tournament is scheduled for September 18th and 19th at the scenic Country Club of Virginia – Tuckahoe Creek in Richmond, VA.

The current field of the tournament consist of (Ranking): Little Rock (30), Lipscomb (37), Stetson (73), VCU (85), UNCW (88), Wright St (104), Elon (116), Charleston Southerm (121), NC State (125), Davidson (131), Richmond (1370, JMU (142), George Washington (145), Appalachian St (169)

Notably, Stetson is also currently positioned at 82nd according to GolfWeek and holds the 88th spot in the GolfStat rankings, further elevating the anticipation for their participation in this event.

With the picturesque backdrop of the Country Club of Virginia's Tuckahoe Creek course, players will navigate 6,920 yards of challenging terrain set to a Par 72. The tournament consists of 54 holes, with 36 holes scheduled for Monday and 18 for Tuesday, ensuring an intense and thrilling competition.

The action kicks off both days at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start, promising a high-energy start to each round.

Looking back at their recent performance, the Stetson Hatters Men's Golf Team has set the bar high. At the Golfweek Collegiate Kickoff, held at the demanding Dalhousie Country Club, they showcased their grit and secured an impressive third-place finish. On a Par 72 course spanning 7,389 yards, the Hatters posted rounds of 286, 278, and 295 for a total score of 859, a remarkable 5-under-par performance.

Senior standout John Houchin led the charge, finishing 9th at 2-under-par, displaying remarkable consistency throughout the tournament. The team's depth was on full display, with Javier Calles, Truman Keppy, and Matt Gauntlett all tying for 14th at 1-over-par. Newcomer Dominic Clemons also made his presence felt, finishing tied for 19th at 2-over-par.

In addition, Bradley Goldstein and Mason Quagliata, participating as individuals, delivered solid performances, ending T-36th and T-44th, respectively.

With such a strong start to the season, the Stetson Hatters Men's Golf Team enters the 2023 VCU Shootout with momentum and high expectations.

"Our performance at the GolfWeek Collegiate Kickoff was impressive, setting a high standard for our team. As we look towards the 2023 VCU Shootout, I'm very excited about the opportunities it presents," said Head Coach Danny Forshey. "It's not only a test of our abilities but also provides us with a chance to make our mark and continue our strong start to the season. We've already showcased our potential, now, we're eager to continue working everyday."
