HOOVER, Ala - The Stetson women's golf team headed to the links of Hoover Country Club for the Hoover Invite on Sept. 18-19, resulting in a 7th place overall finish in a highly competitive field.
Coming off the momentum of a 1st place finish in the Seminole State Warm-Up to kick off the season, the team entered a field with the likes of eight teams, including Austin Peay, Jacksonville, North Alabama, Queens, Samford, Tennessee Tech, Troy, and the host team, UAB.
Leading the charge for the Hatters were Filippa Jansson, who finished first in Seminole State Warm-Up, and Wendy Hsiao, both securing top-ten finishes over the two-day tournament. Jansson's finesse on the course earned her a remarkable tie for 6th place, while Hsiao secured a commendable tie for 9th place.Â
On the first day, Jansson set the pace for the team with a solid round of 76, closely followed by Hsiao, who carded a 77. Lisa Colee and Victoria Leach contributed with rounds of 81, and Julieta Oviedo rounded out the team's performance with an 83. The day concluded with Stetson in 8th place overall after posting a total score of 315.
The team rallied on the second day, bringing their total score down to 311 and advancing to 7th place. Hsiao led the charge with an impressive round of 74, closely followed by Jansson's 78. Oviedo contributed a solid 79, with Colee posting an 80 and Leach closing the day with an 82.
In the final round, the Hatters delivered their best performance of the tournament, recording a score of 299. This strong finish secured them the 7th place overall, surpassing Tennessee Tech and ASUN rival Queens. Jansson continued to shine, posting the lowest individual team score of 70, ultimately finishing in a tie for 6th place overall. Hsiao and Colee's consistent play resulted in a tie for 9th place and 37th place finishes, respectively. Oviedo contributed with a 79 and a 45th place finish, while Leach completed the team's effort with an 83 and a tie for 52nd place.
The Stetson women's golf team now looks forward to their next challenge, the BearKat Invite hosted by Sam Houston in Huntsville, Texas, scheduled for September 25th and 26th.Â
