Box Score DELAND, FLA.- The Hatters fall to the Royals 2-1 on a rainy Friday night at the Athletic Training Center.
Â
The start of the first half greatly benefitted the Royals as they would score on their third shot of the game in the nineteenth minute. However just six minutes later the Hatters would march down the field and score. A set piece from
Lea Alexander would make its way to
Hanna Arvay down the left side of the pitch. Arvay would cross to the ball to
Kelly Gende and off Gende's foot the ball would bounce off a defender right to
Alexa LoBasso who would flick it over the goalkeeper's left shoulder. The game would be knotted at one in the 25
th minute as both teams would continue fighting in the slippery field conditions. The Royals would push forward once again in the final ten minutes off the half and would score in the 38
th minute to go up 2-1.Â
Â
The Hatters would start off the second half maintaining possession and creating opportunities for the first twenty minutes of the second half. Queens would send in their substitutions and the teams would then take turns creating runs. Both goalies would make sprawling saves to keep the score at 2-1. In the 77
th minute the Hatters would receive a corner kick after a shot from LoBasso would go just left of the goal off a defelction. Arvay would serve the ball into the box as it ping ponged around finding the left foot of
Lea Alexander who put a shot away from the goalie that looked like it would find the back of the net. However a Royal's defender would stick her right boot out and clear it away forcing the Hatters to reset their attack. Stetson would run out of time as they weren't able to connect on the end of their runs.
Â
LoBasso's goal would be her second on the season with the assists credited to both Gende and Arvay. Arvay was one of the best players on the pitch tonight as she made several solo runs that turned into prime opporunties for the Hatters as well as putting the corner kicks into prime spots to be played by a teammate.
Annika Seem was all over the pitch as she played four different positions totaling one shot.
Anna Brethauer, the Captain and anchor of the defense was tremendous as she made multiple tackles stopping Queens attack during the second half.Â
Â
The Hatters will look to bounce back Sunday afternoon as they will take on Kennesaw State at the Athletic Training Center. Kick off is set for 1pm.Â
