FELLSMERE, FL - Both the Stetson women's and men's program were in Fellsmere for the Head of the Canal on Saturday to race some of the best programs in the state of Florida.Â
The Hatters raced against Jacksonville, Florida Tech and Embry Riddle. Two different lengths were raced a 4500m head race and a 1000m sprint. On the men's side Stetson raced 2 boats in both the 4500m and 1000m sprint, 1st varsity 8+ and 2nd varsity 8+. The women's raced 6Â boats overall each boat racing the head and sprint race, the 1st varsity 4+, 1st varsity 8+ and 2nd varsity 8+.

The Hatter men were victorious with the varsity 8+ boat in the head race with a time of 16:09.8, almost ten seconds faster than the second place boat from FIT. The second varsity 8+ boat came across the line in 17:15.7 for 7th place out of the 11 boats racing.Â
The women's varsity 8+ finished third with a time of 19:12.0 and the 2nd varsity 8+ 7th with a time of 20:06.9. The varsity 4+ for Stetson came away with a win finishing the 4500m race in 24:59.6 ahead of Barry and FIT.
The Stetson varsity 8+ boat for the men also came away with a victory in the sprint race with a time of 3:04, while the second varsity 8+ finished 7th in 3:35.8.
The women's varsity 8+ finished 3rd in the sprint with a time of 3:30.8, while the second varsity 8+ finished in 3:42.5 good for 7th out of the 12 boat race. The women's varsity 4+ finished second in the 1000m with a time of 4:55.6.

The Head of the Canal concludes the fall rowing season season for the Hatters as they will get back on the water for racing in February as they host Bates on the 22nd.

The Head of the Canal is a rowing competition held at Canal 54 in Fellsmere, Florida. Canal 54 is a 12-mile stretch of protected water with a slight bend and little boat traffic. The Sebastian River Rowing organization hosts races at Canal 54, including the C54 Cup Series, Fall Middle School Regatta, and Winter Henley.
