Stetson Finishes Victorious in the 2024 Babs Steffens Invitational

DeBary, Fla. - The Stetson University women's golf team hosted the 2024 Babs Steffens Invitational at the DeBary Country Club from March 25 (Mon) to March 26 (Tue). The Hatters won the tournament, shooting 50 over par in a field of nine teams. Stetson was led by 5th year senior Wendy Hsiao, who finished as runner-up in the invitational with a total score of 222, six over par. It was Stetson's second victory of the season after beginning the campaign with a win in the Seminole State Warm-Up. It was her third time placing inside the top-10 this season and second time in the month of March.

Stetson began the event with a round one score of 313 before finishing Monday with a 299, a tournament low. They then shot a 302 on day two, finishing with a first place total of 914, 50 over par. Hsiao shot a 77 in the first round before posting a 73 and 72 over rounds two and three, respectively. She also tallied a tournament high 10 birdies while adding 34 pars. She averaged 3.25 on Par 3s, 4.17 on Par 4s, and 4.83 on Par 5s, the latter tied for a tournament best with teammate Elizabeth Eberle 

Lisa Colee and Eberle both tied for seventh with 230 strokes (+14). On the first day, Colee recorded a 76 and a 75 before finishing play with a 79 on day two. Eberle shook off a 79 in the opening round with a 77 in round two and a 74 in the final round. Colee led all participants with 37 pars while the latter provided 7 birdies.

Filippa Jansson followed suit with a 232, 16 over par, tying her for 13th place. She shook off a shaky start of an 81 with a 74 in the second round before ending the tournament with a 77. Jansson tallied 35 pars, tied for third most in the tournament, and four birdies.

Grace Smith rounded out the Hatters' squad with a 46th place finish at +44 with a total of 260 strokes. Julieta Oviedo and Darby Nuxol competed in the tournament as individuals, the former of the two placing sixth in the event. She posted an 80 in the first round before firing off a 72 in the second round and a 77 in the third. Oviedo recorded 32 pars and six birdies while Nuxol, who placed 49th, tallied 26 pars and a birdie.

The tournament win marks the end of the regular season for the Hatters as they now head to the RTJ Hampton Cove - Highlands Course in Huntsville, AL on April 14 (Sun) April 16 (Tue) for the 2024 ASUN Championship.
