DOTHAN, Ala. - The Stetson University men's golf team wrapped up the season with a fifth place finish in the ASUN Championship at RTJ at Highland Oaks from April 21-23. After finishing the first round in ninth place, the Hatters fired back with a 286 and 287 in the final two rounds, the former of the two being the lowest of round two. Stetson shot ten over par with a total score of 874 for the tournament.
The Hatters were led by sophomore
Dominic Clemons, who finished T-12th at three over par. Clemons, a three time ASUN Golfer of the Week this season, posted scores of 71, 77 and 71 for a total of 219. While averaging a 4.58 on Par 5s, Clemons tallied 13 birdies throughout the event.
Javier Calles Roman finished T-17th for Stetson. After beginning play with a 78, Calles settled down with a pair of 71s for a total of 220, four over par. He averaged 4..03 on Par 4s while recording 33 pars.
Truman Keppy and
John Houchin finished T-21 and T-26th, respectively. Keppy's final score of 221, five over par, included a 69 in the second round, the lowest score of the round by any golfer. Houchin, who finished six over par with 222, rebounded from a 77 in the opening round by recording a 74 and 71 in rounds two and three. Keppy averaged an even 3.00 on Par 3s and 4.50 on Par 5s while Houchin averaged 3.08 on Par 3s. Keppy led the Hatters with 14 birdies while Houchin parred a team-high 34 times.
Matt Gauntlett rounded out the Hatters' postseason effort with a total score of 228, 12 over par. It tied him for 42nd as he began play with a 75 and 72 before finishing with an 81. He tied with Calles with 33 pars in the event.
