Men's Golf's Historic Season Ends at NCAA Regional

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Stetson Hatters conclude their 2023-24 season at the NCAA Regional after making an appearance for the first time in program history. While it was their second straight postseason appearance under Head Coach Danny Forshey, the season was on for the record books as the team tallied six top-3 finishes including three tournament wins.

From Monday May 13 to Wednesday May 15, the Hatters competed in the West Lafayette NCAA Regional at the Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in Indiana, where they were the 10th seeded team of 13 competing teams and 10 individuals. Stetson placed 11th, shooting 15 over par after totaling a score of 879 in the event. After a tough start of 304, the Hatters bounced back with rounds of 286 and 289 but it wasn't enough to advance.

Leading the Hatters in the postseason effort was Javier Calles, who tied for 27th. He finished two over after shooting -1 in the final round. After posting a 78 in the opening round, Calles knocked nearly ten strokes off in the second round with a 69. He then concluded play with a 71 to finish with a final of 218.

Truman Keppy followed close behind with a total of 219, tying him for 34th in the field. A near consistent round, Keppy shot a pair of 74s in the opening and closing rounds but saw his best round on day two when he shot a 71.

Dominic Clemons, a First Team All-ASUN honoree, finished just behind Keppy, shooting four over for a total of 220. After a 77 to begin his tournament, Clemons quickly rebounded with a 71 and 72 over the ensuing two rounds.

Clemons tied for a 41st finish while John Houchin trailed close behind as he tied for 44th. The duo both shot even on the third day but Houchin began with a pair of 75s to finish with 222.

Matt Gauntlett and Bradley Goldstein both saw action as Gauntlett competed in rounds one and three while Goldstein was subbed in for the second. Gauntlett posted scores of 80 and 76 while Goldstein shot an 82 in his lone round.

As a team, Stetson parred 171 times while tallying 35 birdies and an eagle. Clemons and Keppy averaged an even score on Par 3s and Par 4s, respectively while Calles led the Hatters on Par 5s with a 4.75 average. Houchin totaled 39 pars over the three days, tying him for second most among all golfers. He also eagled hole 4, a Par 5, in the third round. Calles sunk the most birdie putts for Stetson with 11.
