DeBARY, Fla. – For the second straight year, the Stetson Hatters claimed victory at the Babs Steffens Invitational, held Monday and Tuesday at DeBary Country Club. The tournament, hosted by Stetson, featured 15 teams, including three from the Atlantic Sun Conference.
The Hatters finished 12-over-par (876) in a rain-soaked event, securing the title with a commanding 17-stroke win over in-state rival Jacksonville. Four Hatters placed inside the top six, including Isaki Sakashita and Filippa Jansson, who tied for second.
Stetson opened with a 296 in the first round before posting a tournament-low 285 in round two. The Hatters closed with a 295 on Tuesday to seal the win.
Sakashita and Jansson finished 2-over (218), just one shot behind the individual champion. Sakashita rebounded from a 78 in the first round with a tournament-low 70 in round two and closed with a 72. Jansson led after the first round with a 71 before shooting 73 and 74.
Alisa Brannock (T-4th, +3) and Julieta Oviedo (6th, +5) also delivered strong performances. Both carded 71 in the second round, with Brannock finishing at 219 and Oviedo at 221.
Elizabeth Eberle rounded out Stetson's starting five, tying for 12th at +12 (228), highlighted by a second-round 73.
Competing as individuals, Grace Smith (T-27th) matched Sakashita for the tournament's lowest round with a 70 in round two, finishing at 234. Victoria Leach (237) and Darby Nuxol (264) also represented Stetson.
As a team, the Hatters totaled 182 pars, led by Jansson's 38, and topped the tournament with 33 birdies. Sakashita recorded nine birdies, while Smith, Brannock, Oviedo, and Jansson each tallied seven.
Stetson will return to action March 7-9 at the Lady Thunderbird Invitational, hosted by Southern Utah at Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George, Utah.
