Lake Jovita, FL - The Stetson Hatters continued their strong spring season with their third consecutive Top-3 finish, tying for third place at the Spring Break Shootout this past weekend. Hosted by Western Kentucky at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club (Par 71, 6,049 yards), the event featured 13 teams, including tournament champion FGCU. The Hatters finished with 889 strokes, 37 over par, tying with New Mexico State, and trailing only FGCU and Illinois.
Once again, freshman standout Isaku Sakashita led the Hatters. Last week's ASUN Co-Golfer of the Week, Sakashita tied for third place with a total of 214 strokes, one over par, posting rounds of 72, 71, and 71.
Julieta Oviedo followed closely, tying for 20th with 224 strokes (+11). She started strong with a 73, followed by a 77 and a 74 in the final two rounds.
Filippa Jansson and Alisa Brannock finished tied for 40th and 44th, respectively, with scores of 230 and 231. Brannock opened with a 74, but her rounds of 77 and 80 kept her from moving higher. Jansson struggled in the first two rounds (78 and 77) but rebounded with a 75 in the final round.
Elizabeth Eberle rounded out the Hatters' squad, finishing tied for 72nd with 243 strokes. Eberle posted the team's lowest round of the tournament with a 70 in the final round.
Victoria Leach finished third among the Hatters, placing 75th overall with a total of 249 strokes, averaging 83 per round.
The Hatters will return to action at the ECU Ironwood Invite in Greenville, NC, from March 30 to April 1, marking their final tournament before the ASUN Championship.
