Stetson Golfers Make History With ASUN Awards

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the first time in program history, the Stetson University men's golf team swept both the ASUN Conference Golfer and Freshman of the Year awards, the league office announced today.

Graduate transfer Matthis Lefèvre was named the league's Golfer of the Year, while first year collegian Thanattasorn Supinraj was honored as the Freshman of the Year in a vote of the conference head coaches.

In addition, Lefèvre earned first-team all-ASUN honors, while junior Simon Engman joined seniors Gaspar Glaudas and Jackson Hicks as honorees on the all-ASUN third-team. This year marked the first time in program history to have four Hatters lauded as first, second or third-team all-ASUN honorees. In his five seasons at Stetson, Coach Danny Forshey has guided Hatter golfers to eight all-league honors.

Lefèvre, a native of Hossegor, France, is the first Hatter to earn the ASUN Golfer of the Year award since Tom Creavy was honored in 1991 – when the league was still known as the Trans America Athletic Conference. Creavy was the TAAC medalist that season, went on to be named to the Stetson University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012 and is considered one of the game's top instructors.

A 3-time tournament winner during the regular season, Lefèvre competed in all 11 of Stetson's tournaments and posted a team-best 70.9 scoring average. He turned in nine rounds in the 60s, while 22 of his 32 total rounds scored at par or better. Lefèvre claimed medalist honors at the Furman Invitational, Dorado Beach Collegiate and the Sam Ryder Intercollegiate.

A native of Udon Thani, Thailand, Supinraj is the first Hatter to earn Freshman of the Year honors since the league began the award in 2001. He joins Chris Wiliiard (2017) as the onlky Stetson freshman to earn ASUN all-freshman team honors.

He showed consistent improvement as the season progressed, posting a 72.8 scoring average during the spring – two strokes better than his fall average. His best finish was a tie for 13th at the Sam Ryder Intercollegiate, but he captured the league coaches' attention as he posted rounds of 71-68 over the first two days of the ASUN Championships at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga.

Engman, who also earned third-team all-ASUN honors last season as a sophomore transfer, finished a season-high sixth at the ASUN Championships. A native of Gothenburg, Sweden, his 72.3 scoring average tied Glaudas for second-best on the team. Lefèvre, Engman and Glaudas were the only Hatters to play all 11 events for Stetson during the season.

Last year's ASUN medalist and first-team all-ASUN selection, Glaudas improved his scoring average by a more than a stroke per round. The Sainte Tulle, France native opened the season with an 8-under par 208 at the Whirlwind Collegiate Invitational and posted his best finish of the year when he finished as runner-up to countryman Lefèvre at the Dorado Beach Collegiate.

Hicks, a Roswell, N.M. native who, like Lefèvre and Glaudas, was a junior college All-America selection prior to arriving at Stetson, registered a 72.9 scoring average with a low round of 67 en route to a season-best second place finish at the Sam Ryder Intercollegiate. Over the last two seasons, four of the six rounds he played at the ASUN Championships scored under par. Twelve of his 24 rounds on the season scored at par or better.
