OOLTEWAH, Tenn. — Stetson women's golfers
Anna Huettl and
Isaki Sakashita are set to compete against the nation's top amateur players next week at the 126th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, scheduled for Aug. 4-9 at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tennessee.
The championship begins with 36 holes of stroke play on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the low 64 players advancing to match play beginning Thursday. The event concludes with a 36-hole championship match on Sunday.
Huettl and Sakashita each earned their place in the 156-player field with standout qualifying performances earlier this summer, navigating competitive fields to secure spots in one of amateur golf's premier championships.
Sakashita advanced after capturing medalist honors at the Wilmette Golf Club qualifier in Wilmette, Illinois. The junior fired a bogey-free 4-under-par 67, carding six birdies and finishing three strokes clear of the field to claim medalist honors. Her round was highlighted by a back-nine 32, helping her become one of just three players to finish under par.
Huettl punched her ticket by finishing runner-up at the Victory Links Golf Course qualifier in Blaine, Minnesota. The junior carded a 1-under-par 70, recording three birdies while playing her final 14 holes at 2-under to secure one of the site's two qualifying spots. Huettl finished one stroke behind medalist Addison Klonowski and one shot ahead of a five-player tie for third.
The pair will represent Stetson at one of the most prestigious championships in amateur golf, joining a field that includes many of the world's top-ranked amateurs. The winner receives exemptions into the 2027 U.S. Women's Open, the 2027 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship (if age eligible), and several other premier amateur championships.
Both golfers enter the event following standout sophomore campaigns that helped lead Stetson to one of the most successful seasons in program history. Huettl earned ASUN Golfer of the Year honors after recording four tournament victories, while Sakashita collected WGCA All-American Scholar recognition and advanced to the U.S. Women's Amateur with one of the lowest qualifying scores in the country.
